Locomotive Spirit of Adventure.
Built by the Exmoor Steam Railway. Construction commenced 1992. Completed July 1993 and taken to the Ravenglass & Eskdale railway for trials. It ended up staying a year, during which time it took over River Esk's duties for a while when that engine burst a cylinder cover. Visited the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway in 2004. At Perrygrove it has always been very popular and it is so easy to drive that an ab initio driver can be trained very quickly. For further details please click on the thumbnail image. Owned by Michael & Frances Crofts

Garratt Locomotive.
This Garratt locomotive is a 15" gauge version of the 2' gauge original, which was the first of its kind ever built. It came to us from the Bush Mill Railway in Tasmania and it arrived at Perrygrove in April 2005. The Bush Mill railway has closed and has been dismantled. The Garratt has been rebuilt by Mike Eddy Engineering and M22 Engineering. The locomotive entered service at Perrygrove on 1st September 2007.
Details of the prototype locomotive are at a site run by a supporter of the Welsh Highland Railway. Owned by GLI Ltd..

Modern Passenger Carriages
We have 3 modern carriages of steel construction measuring approx. 20 ft. long x 4ft wide and just under 6 ft high. Exmoor Steam Railway built all the bogies, which are fitted with brakes actuated by powerful springs and held off by compressed air. Exmoor also built the bodies for the fully enclosed and partially glazed carriage. Alan Keef Ltd. built the body for the open carriage.

Open truck
This vehicle is indespensible. It is used for everything - ballast, spoil, wood cuttings and logs, tools, etc. It runs on 2'0" gauge Hudson bearings and axles and is 4' wide like most of our rolling stock. I have never measured its length. At present it waddles like a duck - the re-gauging of the axles was not a success. New axles will be fitted in 2004.Owned by Treasure Train Ltd.; Picture: Howard Martin

Box Van
This is the second most useful goods wagon on the railway. In the operating season it takes the Treasure Hunt clues out each morning and brings them back in the evening. In the winter it is used to carry track maintenance equipment. The steel framework and brakes were built by Jeremy Martin and the joinery and paintwork were completed at Perrygrove.Owned by Treasure Train Ltd. Picture: Howard Martin

Converted flat wagon from South Crofty Mine

Pompey
This big diesel locomotive was built by the local railway engineers Alan Keef Ltd. for a private customer. Pompey is a lovely machine and we enjoyed having it at Perrygrove. The first picture shows it on a load test pulling two steam locomotives and several carriages. The second picture shows the team from Alan Keef.

Mark Timothy
Mark Timothy came to Perrygrove from the Bure Valley Railway where it had never worked. It ran on our tracks for testing and evaluation before going on to the works of Alan Keef Ltd. where it has been rebuilt. The picture shows it hauling a test train at Perrygrove. It is now running at the Bure Valley Railway, and has an appearance based on the narrow gauge Leek and Manifold Railway locomotives.

Could you offer any of your time to help with further development of this side of the railway?
If you are interested, please look at what is going on behind the scenes by going to our Diary page.
The development of new rolling stock and other minimum gauge estate railway features is very satisfying and depends on help from volunteers.
